Too many job seekers worry so much about doing well in the interview, that they forget the job search process is really a match-making process. Yes, it's important to do well in your interviews, but it's just as important to make sure that you like your potential employers. The Wall Street Journal has an interesting article about unsual company cultures and they stress the importance of making sure you fit in a place before you accept the position.
When Andrew Giangola was going through a series of interviews a few years ago to join the upper ranks of a Midwestern company, he quickly got wind of the Wives Club to which most spouses of the top brass belonged. The club members spent significant time together, taking painting and pottery classes, and participating in a book club.Mr. Giangola knew if he joined the company, his wife would be expected to join the club. She was even asked to attend a follow-up interview.
Now, Viviane Giangola is a very friendly person. It's just that she's also independent minded, so her husband knew she might not want to pick her friends in such a just-add-water fashion. He wasn't too thrilled either about the idea of the club, which seemed just a little creepy to him.
"I'm thinking Stepford," says Mr. Giangola of his reaction. "This was bad cinema before the film even started."
He stopped pursuing the job.
If you're in the middle of a job search, take some time to think about what you're looking for in your next employer. Don't be so eager to please, that you forget to look out for your own needs.

following article was originally included in a Career
Tips
booklet Steve published for service leavers back in
1998,
and has been adapted as a ‘Serious Wealth Warning’
message
on the Top Pro website. When you start ‘doing the
math’,
as our US Cousins would say, it is quite staggering,
indeed
frightening, how much money we can lose by doing half
a
job on our career change preparation.
In
particular, having a CV prepared by a ‘cut-price’
merchant,
or worse doing the job yourself, can prove to be
incredibly
expensive and bad judgement in the end. I know
you
will be thinking “he’s bound to say that – he wants to
sell
me a CV (Resume)!”, but just work the figures out for yourself.
Take
out a calculator and get your latest salary statement.
Go
on, get them now and work it through.
Most
job seekers take an average of 120 - 180 days to find
a
job. Don't take my word for it, ask any employment
consultant
or agency. Or use the Government’s own figures
(http://www.statistics.gov.uk/CCI/nugget.asp?ID=12).
In
terms
of lost income, if you earn an average of let's say
£50
per day (VERY conservative for Professional Clients),
you
would lose £6000 - £9000 over that period.
Use
your own figures to confirm this. Add to this the cost
Of
living through the same period, and then the month
working
before you get your next salary injection, and you
are
looking at, conservatively, the thick end of £10000 to
£15000
(yes, that’s ten to fifteen THOUSAND POUNDS) loss to
you
and yours in the time it takes to sign up for a quick
and
easy resume or CV by one of the hundreds of companies
peddling
their wares in the marketplace.
It
takes about 30 seconds to sign up for these services. If
you
make the wrong choice it may take months to get back on
track.
First
of all, in say 2 - 4 weeks, realisation dawns.
The
CV or Resume you have bought (or worse – written
yourself!)
is just not up to the job, just isn't cutting it.
Maybe
you spent £40 - £60 getting it done (some companies
charge
even less!).
Even
if you used a credible company that offers a worthwhile
guarantee
you will now have to go through the exercise again
and
either spend the same or more (if you have got the
message
by now) to get a proper job done by somebody else.
Or
you will go through a rewriting exercise with the same
company
that provided the weak CV or Resume in the first
place.
In
the meantime, of course, the 'ideal' job you were chasing
originally
has probably already gone. So now you are
starting
the entire process all over again and the clock is
still
ticking relentlessly on.
No
money is coming in.
Can
you really afford to keep on keeping on?
Do
yourself and your family a favour. Do the job once. Read
the
testimonials here if you are still in doubt:

When you want to conquer the interview you should know.
The reason why so many people are sub-consciously nervous about the interview process is because they feel like they are being put on the "spot light," and they must perform.
According to US Army Case Studies:
1.) Audio - memory retains 20% of what is heard
2.) Visual - memory retains 40% of what is seen
3.) Visual & Audio - memory retains 80% of what is seen and heard simultaneously
Significance: Ussually during an interview, all the employer's data about you comes from your words. What you must immediately understand is that an employer is human just like you. They forget, misinterpret, or get confused about information just like anyone else (not to mention sometimes we get nervous). By having a career portfolio you decrease the chances of an employer ... more...

Like preparing a great meal, interviewing requires preparation. Get good ingredients and give yourself time. Taking the time to prepare for an interview will give you a huge leg up on your completion.
1.) Schedule interviews at times that work for your metabolism. Are you a morning person? Why would you accept a 6PM interview? If you are a person who functions best in the afternoon, try not to accept early morning appointments. If you are a person who needs to be conscious of their blood sugar, try to schedule your appointments at times when you are at your peak. If forced to accept one of your less ideal times, have a quick bite prior to the interview to avoid "fading." Avoid overeating.
2.) Give yourself extra time to get to their offices. There are few things worse than getting ... more...

Some of the information that I review in my ebook The Best Job Search Step By Step Secrets is the normal precedure of an employer and hiring manager.
There is a reason on why I do this. I'm going to tell you a secret that's going to give you an immediate edge over you competition if you decide to implement it.
It's really simple...
... Make the job of the employer easier!
I know what your thinking this is not a killer tip but that's where your wrong. Let me show you why.
Imagine that your doing work at your job. Then some person comes along and said "here let me take a load off your shoulder... and don't worry I won't charge you for nothing."
Well, that's how employers feel when you make there decision easier for them. Because you stand out ... more...

Here goes a simple job interviewing tip that no one should have problems implementing nor forgetting (I hope
).
This tip applies after you have earned the job interview and your on your way towards the interview itself.
Job Interviewing Tip: Always bring multiple copies of your resume!
I will explain why in a second but first I know your wondering; how many copies? I would recommend that you at least have 5 extra copies.
Why?
There are 3 reasons why you should bring extra copies of your resume:
1.) If the employer wanted extra copies for any reason at all you actually save them labor by already supplying extra copies.
2.) You never know how many people will be interviewing you. You just don't know these days! I have seen many cases in which organizations pefer to interview one candidate with a full panel ... more...
